Hazel Oxborough
Hello, I’m Hazel Oxborough. I’m a jeweller, designer and illustrator based in Brisbane, Australia.
This is me wearing a Bulgari necklace and feeling utterly fabulous. I truly believe jewellery can and should do this! Unlike anything else, jewellery has a unique ability to evoke feelings of confidence, joy, and overall fabulousness. This is what I aim to achieve within my work - designs that uplift and transport the wearer. Jewellery tells a story about both the artisan who makes it and the person who wears it.
I began my apprenticeship at age twenty-one in New Zealand, under a British master jeweller - learning traditional, handmade techniques passed down through generations. There was a complete focus on the handmade and the training was meticulous.
As my career in jewellery grew so did my ideas and aspirations. For eleven years I worked alongside numerous talented jewellers and gained invaluable experience in custom design and creation, a facet of the industry that I absolutely love! At the end of 2023, I decided to take the leap and start my own business, Hazel Oxborough Jewellery. This was inspired by the success of my signature collection Juliet Rose.
I started Hazel Oxborough Jewellery with the dream to create vibrant and inspirational jewellery that is unafraid to stand out. I want people to wear my designs with confidence and have fun! My style is varied, instead of having one particular look I tend to get inspired by a theme and then design accordingly. I can be super feminine or bold and geometric. Classical or inspired by pop culture, colourful or monochrome. Approach me with anything - I love a challenge!
My creative approach to jewellery design is unique. I begin with an illustration before moving to the workshop to create a 3D, wearable jewel. The illustration is hand painted and essentially an incredibly detailed working drawing that gives a colourful impression of the finished product. To me, the painting celebrates and completes the story - the render is the beginning, the crafting is the middle and the piece, worn and loved, is the end.
I design for my business and for clients. All of my existing designs are able to be made or used for inspiration and I also offer a custom design service. Once the design is settled on, I source the materials and begin hand making the piece in my workshop. All pieces are lovingly made by me (although sometimes with the help of my daughter and two cats).
I hope that you enjoy my work and love jewellery as much as I do! I am always available for a chat, be it about a design or just jewellery in general. I look forward to making something beautiful with you!
